NordPass review 2026: is Nord's password manager worth it?

By Top Shelf Picks · Updated October 30, 2026 · Based on NordPass's official plan, security and support pages plus independent 2026 reviews (sources at the end)

Short answer: NordPass is one of the easiest password managers to live with in 2026. It has a clean interface, solid autofill, passkey support, a built-in Data Breach Scanner, and a modern security design (XChaCha20 encryption with a zero-knowledge architecture, audited by Cure53). Premium is also one of the cheaper paid options from a big brand. The catches: the free plan only lets one device be logged in at a time, the best prices need a 1- or 2-year upfront payment and renew higher, and power users (Linux, developers, people who want shared family folders) will find gaps. If you've been putting off a password manager, it's a very good place to start.

Try it risk-free: start on the free plan, or pick Premium or Family, which come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Who NordPass is for

It's less ideal if you want a fully featured free plan on every device (Bitwarden's free tier is more generous), if you live in Linux or the terminal, or if you want an open-source password manager.

Free vs Premium vs Family

NordPass Free

The free plan doesn't expire and doesn't ask for a credit card. It stores unlimited passwords, passkeys, credit cards and secure notes, and it autosaves and autofills logins. The big limit, spelled out in NordPass's own help center: only one active session at a time. You can install the app and extension on as many devices as you like, but logging in on your phone logs you out on your laptop. For most people who switch between devices daily, that gets old fast. Treat Free as a good way to try the app, not a long-term home.

NordPass Premium

Premium is for one person and keeps you logged in on unlimited devices at once. NordPass's support page lists these Premium extras: Authenticator (built-in 2FA codes), Data Breach Scanner, Password Health, Email Masking, secure item sharing, file attachments and Emergency Access. Note: the live plan table on nordpass.com showed Authenticator differently from the help center when we checked, so confirm it on the plan page if 2FA codes are a must-have for you.

NordPass Family

Family gives you six separate encrypted vaults with every Premium feature. One is yours as the plan owner, and you invite up to five other people. Each person's vault stays private. One gap reviewers point out: there are no shared family folders like 1Password has, so you share items one by one. NordPass also says you can't switch directly from Premium to Family. You have to contact support.

Security: XChaCha20, zero-knowledge and audits

NordPass encrypts your vault on your device before anything goes to its servers, and it's built on a zero-knowledge architecture, so NordPass says even its own staff can't read your vault. Here's what NordPass's security pages and app listing say:

One honest reminder: zero-knowledge means that if you lose your master password, NordPass can't simply reset it and give you your data back. Store your recovery code somewhere safe when you set up the account.

Key features

Passkeys

NordPass can create, store, sync and share passkeys next to your passwords, so you can sign in to supported sites without typing anything. The fine print from NordPass's own FAQ: passkeys can't be imported or exported to other password managers right now, and you can't view them. That makes switching away later a bit harder. At least one user report on Reddit (August 2026) described Windows sometimes routing passkey prompts away from NordPass on certain sites, and NordPass replied asking for logs. Your experience may differ.

Data Breach Scanner and Password Health

The Data Breach Scanner checks whether your email addresses, logins or payment cards show up in known breaches and alerts you. Password Health flags weak, old and reused passwords so you know what to change first. Both are Premium and Family features. One limitation Security.org noted: the scanner tells you your data appeared in a leak, but it can't always say how it got there.

Email Masking

Paid plans let you create forwarding email aliases so you don't hand your real address to every newsletter and store. Cybernews reports a limit of 200 masks on Personal and Family plans and 1,000 on Business, with up to 30 new masks per day.

Sharing, file attachments and Emergency Access

Premium users can share individual items securely, attach files to vault items, and name trusted contacts for Emergency Access. Security.org found Emergency Access only on mobile in its testing, not on desktop or web.

Apps and import

There are apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge and Opera, and a web vault. You can import passwords from your browser or another password manager. On Linux, the desktop app installs via Snap only (64-bit, Snap-capable distros).

Pricing (at the time of writing)

NordPass sells two personal paid plans, Premium and Family, on 1-year and 2-year terms billed upfront, plus the free plan. When we checked on October 30, 2026, the official plan page didn't show us fixed US prices we could quote, and published 2026 prices differ by region, date and promotion. Here's what several independent 2026 pricing roundups reported. Treat these as ballpark figures and check the official page before you buy. Sales tax may apply.

PlanUsers1-year plan (reported intro price)2-year planKey extras

Premium1About $1.99/mo ($23.88 upfront)Lower effective monthly price; reported figures ranged from about $1.29 to $1.59/moUnlimited devices, Password Health, Data Breach Scanner, Email Masking, sharing, file attachments, Emergency Access
Family6 vaultsAbout $3.69/mo ($44.28 upfront)Lower effective monthly price; reported figures ranged from about $2.32 to $2.79/moAll Premium features for six separate users

Renewals cost more. Intro prices apply to the first term only. One September 2026 review (PanicVault) listed standard renewal rates of $35.88/year for Premium and $71.88/year for Family. Check the renewal price shown at checkout, and set a reminder before your renewal date.

Refunds: Premium and Family have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Security.org also reported that a new free account got a 30-day Premium trial in the iPhone app with no card required. Trials like this vary, so don't count on it.

NordPass Business

For companies, NordPass offers Teams (small teams of up to 10 users), Business (adds group and folder-based sharing, password health and breach monitoring, audit logs, and a Vanta compliance integration) and Enterprise (adds SSO with Entra ID, MS ADFS and Okta, automatic user provisioning, and Microsoft Sentinel and Splunk integrations). Pricing is per user, with monthly billing available on business plans. There's a free trial with no credit card required, and business plans have a 14-day refund window (not 30 days).

Alternatives in brief

Password managerConsider it if…
NordPassYou want an easy, affordable, modern password manager with breach scanning built in.
BitwardenYou want a free plan that works on unlimited devices, or open-source code you can inspect.
1PasswordYou want shared family vaults and folders, and polished extras, and don't mind paying more.
Proton PassYou already use Proton Mail or Proton VPN and want everything in the same privacy-focused ecosystem.

We haven't linked these alternatives. Compare their current pricing and renewal terms on their own sites.

NordPass + NordVPN

A password manager and a VPN solve different problems. NordPass protects your accounts from reused and leaked passwords, and a VPN protects your connection on networks you don't trust. At the time of writing, NordVPN's Complete and Prime plans list a password manager as included, so if you need both, compare a NordVPN Complete bundle against buying NordPass Premium on its own. Our NordVPN review 2026 breaks down those tiers and their renewal prices.

How to judge the Black Friday NordPass deal

Black Friday 2026 is Friday, November 27. Nord Security brands usually run promotions around Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and they often start earlier in November. We won't guess at discount percentages before they're announced. Here's how we'd judge whatever deal appears:

  1. Look at the total charged today, not the per-month figure. Multi-year plans are billed upfront.
  2. Divide by the real term. If bonus months are added, compare deals by total price ÷ total months.
  3. Check the renewal price and put a reminder in your calendar a few weeks before it.
  4. Decide Premium vs Family first. If two or more people in your home need a password manager, Family usually beats two Premium plans.
  5. Consider a bundle if you also want a VPN, but only if you'll actually use both.
  6. Use the 30-day guarantee. Import your passwords and test autofill on your most-used sites and apps in week one.

FAQ

Is NordPass free?

Yes, there's a free plan that doesn't expire, with unlimited passwords. But only one device can be logged in at a time, and breach scanning, Password Health and sharing are paid features.

How much does NordPass cost in 2026?

Independent 2026 roundups reported the 1-year Premium plan at about $1.99/month ($23.88 upfront) and 1-year Family at about $3.69/month, with cheaper 2-year terms and higher renewals. Check the official page for today's price.

Is NordPass safe?

It uses on-device XChaCha20 encryption, Argon2id and a zero-knowledge design. It's been audited by Cure53, and NordPass Business holds ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2. Use a strong master password and turn on MFA.

Does NordPass support passkeys?

Yes. You can save, sync and share them, but you can't currently import or export passkeys.

Does NordPass have a money-back guarantee?

Yes, 30 days on Premium and Family. Business plans have a 14-day refund window and a free trial.

Is NordPass included with NordVPN?

At the time of writing, NordVPN's Complete and Prime plans include a password manager, and Basic doesn't. NordPass is also sold on its own.

Verdict: 4.3 / 5

NordPass gets the basics right: it's easy to use, it autofills well, it supports passkeys, and it has a modern, audited security design. Premium includes breach scanning and email masking at a low first-term price. It loses points for the one-session free plan, upfront billing with higher renewals, passkey lock-in, and gaps for Linux and power users. Our advice: try Free or use the 30-day guarantee to test autofill on your own sites, pick Family if more than one person in your home needs it, and buy during a promo with a renewal reminder set.
